The winner of the Dr. Mario tournament will win a pass to Replax FX 2020 to compete for the Dr. Mario Grand Championship. The tournament is free-to-play for all attendees, but registration is highly recommended.
The tournament format will be a modified double elimination bracket and the seeds will be drawn at random. Once the top bracket and the loser’s bracket are down to their final 4 players, the loser’s bracket will be reintroduced into the top bracket for the final 8.
The game level and the number of rounds per match will be fluid for the opening rounds based on the number of participants and time constraints, but the final 8 will be a single elimination bracket, best 3 out of 5 rounds (a single standard Dr Mario match) played at Level 14 / Hi speed.
3. GAME PLATFORM
Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
We will provide consoles, cartridges, and monitors for the tournament. Players may bring their own standard-issue unmodified first-party NES controllers to use in the tournament if they wish. If a player does not bring their own controller, one will be provided.
Attendees may bring their own controllers or use devices provided.
6. TOURNAMENT DISPUTES
Tournament referees decide all disputes.
Participants are not allowed to hook up streaming or recording devices to any system that is in play during the tournament. Those caught doing so will be immediately removed from the tournament.
8. BROKEN RULES/RIGHTS OF OFFICIALS
Any broken rules will be left to the judges to deem consequence. Typically, first offense is a warning, a second is a reduction in score, a third will be forfeiture of the game and fourth banned from the tournament.
Tournament officials reserve the right to change, update, clarify, add or subtract rules, if deemed necessary.
